Government holds national teleconference on development of cultural industries

(BNP) – On December 22, Prime Minister (PM) Pham Minh Chinh chaired a national teleconference on the development of cultural industries in Vietnam. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha also attended the conference.

Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huong Giang and the relevant departments and branches attended the conference at Bac Ninh’s venue.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the cultural industries include cinematography, cultural tourism, performing arts, fine arts, photography, exhibition, advertising, architecture, designing, publication, fashion, radio and television broadcasting, software, entertainment games, and handicraft. They have made considerable contributions to the economy, it said, elaborating that their production value was estimated at 1.059 quadrillion VND (44 billion USD) during 2018 - 2022. The average 5-year growth rate in the number of economic establishments operating in cultural industries is estimated at 7.2% per year. Currently, Vietnam has more than 70 thousand operating establishments related to cultural industries. The labor force in industries attracts about 2.3 million workers, accounting for 4.42% of the total labor force of the economy.

The Government leader cited the strategy on developing Vietnam’s cultural industries until 2020 with a vision to 2030 as affirming that the industries form an important part of the national economy, and that the State provides favorable conditions for attracting maximum resources from businesses and the society to develop the cultural industries.

To help the cultural industries soon secure fast and sustainable development and optimize potential and advantages, the PM held that it is necessary to make strong changes in terms of both awareness and action, reform the mindset, and apply breakthrough methodology so as to develop “creative, characteristic, unique, professional, and competitive” cultural industries of Vietnam.

Speaking at the Bac Ninh’s venue, Chairwoman Nguyen Huong Giang requested relevant departments and sectors seriously follow the contents and instructions of the PM. At the same time, they need to promote propaganda and raise awareness of the responsibilities of all levels, sectors, localities, and the entire society about the position and role of the cultural industries; strengthen investment and attraction activities in the fields of culture and tourism; restore the economic development of craft villages associated with tourism development, contributing to socio-economic development in the province, Giang added.
