Government issues National Action Plan on digital economic development for 2024 - 2025 period

(BNP) - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed Decision No. 1437/QD-TTg on promulgating the National Action Plan on digital economic development for the 2024-2025 period.

The plan aims to promote the development of the digital economy to achieve the goals set out in Decision No. 411/QD-TTg dated March 31, 2022 on approving the National Strategy for the Development of the Digital Economy and Digital Society to 2025, with a vision to 2030 (the Strategy). In particular, the main growth space of Vietnam's digital economy is determined to be the development of the digital economy by industry and sector; gradually making digital technology and digital data an important input factor for production and business activities in each industry and sector, thereby, improving the economy’s overall efficiency and competitiveness.

The plan sets out four key tasks and solutions, including:

1- Developing ICT digital economy: Developing the information technology industry into a foundational industry to promote the digital economy. Strong digital technology enterprises are advanced production forces to develop the ICT digital economy and promote the digital economy in industries and fields.

2- Developing digital data: Accelerating the availability of high-quality data sets and promoting data circulation, sharing, and openness; boosting data openness, integration, reuse, data circulation, and improving efficiency through data-based innovation; researching and piloting scenarios for data exploitation and use, and developing digital applications...

3- Developing digital economy in industries and fields: Implementing digital transformation in all industries and fields, focusing on enterprises, creating new growth drivers based on data, digital technology and innovation, improving governance capacity, managing the operation of economic and social infrastructure systems, managing business operations, creating new business models; promoting demand for products and services in the digital environment.

Focusing on a number of key industries and fields where Vietnam has great potential and room for digital economic development, including: wholesale and retail trade; agriculture; processing and manufacturing industry; tourism; logistics.

Developing the digital economy in the agricultural sector focuses on smart agriculture, precision agriculture, and increasing the proportion of digital technology agriculture in the economy.

Developing digital economy in the processing and manufacturing industry by applying advanced and modern technologies to transform factories into smart factories in line with the green development trend in the world.

Developing the digital economy in the logistics sector in the direction of applying technology to optimize logistics costs throughout the entire process of transporting goods from seaports, border gates, warehouses - yards - ports to consumers and vice versa....

4- Digital governance: Piloting implementation in ministries, sectors and localities then replicating virtual assistant platforms to support officials and civil servants in drafting legal documents and performing public duties; supporting people on legal issues and other virtual assistants; completing the data-based management model through the Intelligent Operations Center (IOC) to disseminate to localities.
