Introduce, promote Quan ho folksongs of Bac Ninh in some European countries

From May 24th to June 3rd, the delegation of Bac Ninh province including leader of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; artists, musicians of Bac Ninh’s Quan ho Folksongs Theater, led by Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee (PPC) Nguyen Van Phong, implemented many practical activities to introduce and promote unique values of Quan ho folksongs, the intangible representative heritage of the humanity, to international friends, the Vietnamese community in general and the fellow countrymen of Bac Ninh - Kinh Bac in particular living, studying and working in some European countries.

During 9-day business trip in Europe, Bac Ninh’s delegation held 5 programs to introduce and boost Quan ho folk songs in the Republic of Germany and the Czech Republic, where have a large community of overseas Vietnamese people. At the performances and exchanges, a lot of “liền anh, liền chị” (male singers, female singers) of Quan ho folk songs clubs, the fellow countrymen of Bac Ninh - Kinh Bac land, representatives of Association of Vietnamese community in Europe, the fellow countrymen associations of some provinces, cities of Vietnam in those European countries, foreign visitors came to exchange, enjoy the program. They had chances to understand more deeply, comprehensively about the identity of Quan ho’s culture, customs, manners, singing style and so on.

Within the framework of working sessions, Vice Chairman of PPC Nguyen Van Phong and the delegation paid a courtesy visit on the Embassy of Vietnam in countries of Germany, the Czech Republic, and France. During these meetings, Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Phong briefed on remarkable achievements in some important fields after 21 years of re-establishment for the goal of building Bac Ninh province into a centrally-run city by 2022. He also addressed the results of the implementation of the province’s commitment to preserving and promoting the values of Quan ho Bac Ninh, an intangible heritage of the humankind.

For nearly 10 years since its recognition by UNESCO, Bac Ninh province has launched many solutions and projects to preserve and promote the values of Quan họ folksongs. With a start of 44 original Quan ho villages, the province has added nearly 400 Quan ho villages in practice. Moreover, many provinces and cities in the country and many countries around the world have established Quan ho folk songs clubs, attracting over 10,000 members. In addition, the province has issued policies to support artisans, invested in making institutions for this kind of folk songs, and at the same time organized the program of singing Quan ho on boats to serve the people and tourists inside and outside the country every three months.

Vice Chairman of PPC also asked the representative agencies of Vietnam in Germany, France, and the Czech Republic to pay more attention to trade promotion, economic cooperation and investment attraction for Bac Ninh province in particular, and Vietnam in general. It is recommended that the embassies need to request local authorities to pay attention to and facilitate Vietnamese community to enhance their material and spiritual life, boost cultural diplomacy, preservation, and promotion of Vietnamese culture and the values of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Vietnam honored by UNESCO.
