Launch the Action Month for Gender Equality and Gender-Based Violence Prevention in 2018
(BNP) - In the morning of November 13th, in Tien Du district, the Provincial People's Committee held the launching ceremony of Action Month for Gender Equality and Gender-based Violence Prevention in 2018 with the theme "Actively preventing violence against women and children".

Attending the ceremony were Mrs. Dao Hong Lan, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Committee for the Advancement of Women; Ph.D. Duong Kim Anh, Deputy Director of Vietnam Women's Institute; Representatives of departments, unions; districts, town, city and a large number of teachers, students in Tien Du district.
For the past years, Bac Ninh province has implemented synchronously many measures to promote gender equality and social welfare. The percentage of women participating in the Provincial Party Committee for the term of 2015-2020, the National Assembly members of the 14th National Assembly and the provincial People's Council for the term of 2016-2021 are higher than the previous term. The rate of women leaders at the provincial departments and unions reached 40%; The female directors account for 18.3%... However, gender inequalities still exist in many areas of the population, in many areas of society, creating barriers to the development and advancement of women.
Under the theme "Actively preventing violence against women and children", the Action Month for Gender Equality and Gender-based Violence Prevention in 2018 will be held from 15 November to 15 December. During the period, the province focuses on promoting the Law on Gender Equality and organizes activities to help women and girls who are victims of domestic violence, discrimination and gender discrimination, affirming Bac Ninh's determination to end violence against women and girls, tending to an aim which is that women and girls no longer suffer any form of discrimination.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Phong affirmed that implementing gender equality is the key to end violence against women and girls, at the same time called for the whole society to do much more to remove gender-based violence, striving for a society of equality, happiness, and development. The Vice Chairman also urged all levels, sectors, localities, and units to boost the propaganda to raise the awareness on gender and the responsibility to conduct gender equality for officials, party members and people, altering backward concepts about the role of women; promptly detecting, condemning against acts of discrimination, abusive and offensive dignity of women and girls.

Furthermore, the Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Phong calls for all levels, branches, localities and the whole society to take action so that the message "actively preventing violence against women and children" is widespread in each individual, each family, and community.
On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee donated 20 gifts worthy VND 40 million to disadvantaged girls of Tien Du district.
