Peach blossom village in Dinh Bang gets busy ahead of Tet
(BNP) - Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024 is approaching. These days, peach blossom growers in Dinh Bang, Tu Son City are rushing for the Tet season. The scene of people buying, selling, and transporting peach blossoms in peach orchards is bustling.
Located to the west of Hanoi, just 15km away from the capital city’s downtown, the Dinh Bang peach blossom village in Tu Son town, Bac Ninh province, has become a major supplier of peach blossoms in the northern region, attracting a large number of buyers from Hanoi and nearby provinces.
Notably, peach blossom farming is not a traditional practice in Dinh Bang. About 15 years ago, when the renowned peach blossom growing area of Nhat Tan in Hanoi faced the risk of falling into oblivion, some people from Dinh Bang came to Nhat Tan to learn the cultivation. Thanks to locals’ improving skills, the Nhat Tan peach variety has gradually taken root in Dinh Bang.
According to Vice Chairman of Dinh Bang Ward People's Committee Nguyen Van Tien, the ward has now about 340 households participating in peach blossom growing, with a total area of nearly 90 hectares, concentrated mainly in the neighborhoods of Trung Hoa, Ba La, Ba La, Tinh Cau, Xuan Dai and Ao Sen.
To encourage and create conditions for people to improve the efficiency of peach blossom growing, since 2014, the locality has planned a concentrated peach blossom growing area and invested funds to build irrigation canals, drainage, and roads, electrical production and lighting systems. In 2023, the ward opened two training classes to transfer peach blossom planting and care techniques to 130 households.
The price of peach blossom this year increased slightly by 10–15% compared to last year, on average from VND 300 - 500 per branch and from VND 800 - 2 million per tree in the field.
Peach blossom growing has opened up a new direction of production that brings a significant source of income for people in the ward.
