Cao Lo Vuong temple
Cao Lo Vuong temple worships the creator of miracle crossbows – ancestor of weapon manufaction.
Cao Lo Vuong temple is located on the alluvial land by the Duong river, Dai Trung village (other name ò Lo village) in Cao Duc commune of Gia Binh district.
According to the local document, the temple was built long ago and renovated in the Le, Nguyen with large scale that followed “Noi cong ngoai quoc style”. This is the place where worships Cao Lo general – a historical celebrity of An Duong Vuong period, who had great contribution in building Co Loa wall, aka the creator of “nỏ thần” (miracle crossbows) in the war against foreign invaders of the An Lac (an ancient dynasty in Vietnam history).
As a regular, on every 10th March (lunar calendar) the people of 8 village in Dai Than region (including: Dai Trung, Dong Trung, Binh Than, Tieu Than, Van Than, Phu Than, Kenh Pho and My Loc) hold ceremony and festival to commemorate Cao Lo Vuong general. To prepare for ritual progress in the festival, from early morning of 9th of March, the representatives of 8 above villages had to come to the temple for cleaning statue and worshipping objects. This step is called “Moc duc”.
The existing of Cao Lo Vuong temple and “Vùng Than” Festival expresses the commemoration for Cao Lo Vuong – the military talent in the dawn of Vietnam’s history. Also it is an expression of gratitude to those who have contributed to the nation namely Cao Lo and a good opportunity to promote tradition of “National building and defending” for generations.
