Historical relic of Nguyet Hang temple and pagoda

(BNP) - Nguyet Hang temple and pagoda (Hoan Son commune, Tien Du district) was originally built during the Ly dynasty. Nguyet Hang temple is a place of worship and honor for those who have contributed to the country and the people, and it has a profound educational significance for national traditions.

Nguyet Hang pagoda is the center of religious activities in the spiritual life of the people, contributing to education and solidarity promotion in the village community.

In 1962-1963, Nguyet Hang temple (King Lady temple) was dismantled to make a school and a cooperative warehouse. The worship objects were lost and damaged, and the local people had no means to restore the relic site. In 1994, the local people and authority contributed money and effort to restore the temple, which still exists today.

Currently, the temple has an architecture of Chinese “Dinh” letter including: a 3-compartment Great Communal Hall and a 1-compartment Emperor’s Harem.

Nguyet Hang temple festival is held from January 14 to January 16, attracting a large number of local people and visitors.


The temple is a place to worship Princess Nguyet Hang Son Ngoc Chau and the local tutelary god.

Nguyet Hang pagoda is located on Nguyet Hang mountain, so it is called Nguyet Hang Tu. During the Le dynasty (18th century), many constructions were restored and embellished, and the Buddha statues were beautifully painted and gilded. The relic site is the center for local people to visit and worship Buddha.

The Ancestral House has an architecture of Chinese “Nhat” letter including 3 compartments and 2 wings. The Front Ceremonial Hall consists of 3 compartments. The frame is made of wood.

In addition, the pagoda also worships the three holy Mother Goddesses (Mother of Heaven, Mother of Earth, Mother of Water) and Saint Tran (Tran Hung Dao).

Nguyet Hang temple and pagoda were ranked as provincial and municipal historical relics in Decision No. 140/QD-CT dated January 29, 2003.
