According to the elders in village told, when King Ly Nhan Tong (1072-1128) carried out bussiness travel to Lang Giang (name called at Ly Dynasty) to investigate the defence line of Nhu Nguyet (on the Cau river) to fight the aggressors of Tong Dynasty, King heard the fame of the wood carvings of Mac village and so he had chosen artisans to produce furniture for his own use. Then the artisans of Mac village received patterns for carving and combined with the group of astisans of mosaic Chuong village (Ha Tay) trained by the founder Truong Cong Thanh. Several furniture such as, cabinets, settees, lacquered board with symmetrical sentences, chairs… had been in mosaic before being dedicated to King. Since then, the mosaic of Mac village has been replicated and widely known everywhere and hightly appreciated.
The Traditional craft of Huong Mac village has rapidly expanded to the neighbouring villages of Thuong village, Dong village (Phu Khe), Ong village (Van Ha), Dong Ky village (Dong Quang). Later, due to the advantage of the place of trading, people have been aware about traditional handicraft furniture products of Dong Ky village much more than of Huong Mac village, although these products still bear Huong Mac’s several features which were handed down by the ancient artisans.
With kinds of wood such as: techicaisitan, rose-wood, narra padauk, doussie, pyinkado…, artisans have created products such as tables and chair, beds cabinetd, dining tables, altars, bracelets, beads, which are delicate, unique, highly creative.
