Provincial relic of Nguyen Vu family’s ancestral house
(BNP) - The Nguyen Vu family’s ancestral house (Hoan Son commune, Tien Du district) is a unique cultural, architectural and artistic work of the family and homeland. This is a place to worship ancestors and educate the traditions of the Nguyen Vu family to preserve and promote its traditions and homeland.

The ancestral house is the place to worship the ancestors and Confucian scholars of the Nguyen Vu family. According to the stone stele “Vu family genealogy stele” engraved on the auspicious day of January, the year of Tu Duc 30 (1877), the Nguyen Vu family originated from the Nguyen family in Tieu Thuong village, Tuong Giang commune, Tu Son city.

Based on the remaining stele, documents, and genealogy, it is known that the Nguyen Vu family’s ancestral house was built in the 17th century. At that time, the family built 3 small compartments. In the 19th century, the ancestral house was renovated and expanded to a large scale of 34 compartments.

Through the ups and downs of history, in 1958, with the consent of the local authority, the family demolished 28 compartments of the ancestral house to divide among the families. Currently, the Nguyen Vu family’s ancestral house consists of the main architectural structure, the 3-compartment Front Ceremonial Hall and the 3-compartment Back Hall for worshipping ancestors. In 2018, the entire front door system of the Front Ceremonial Hall was replaced.

Currently, the ancestral house has an architecture of Chinese “Nhi” letter consisting of the Front Ceremonial Hall and the Back Hall, which are two original architectural works from the Nguyen dynasty.

Separating the Front Ceremonial Hall and the Back Hall is a small courtyard. The Back Hall has 3 compartments, with a frame made of ironwood.
