Certified brand “Gia Binh single-clove garlic” announced

Participants at the ceremony were leaders of the Department of Science and Technology, Gia Binh district, the unit implementing the science and technology task and a large number of officials, households producing and trading single clove garlic in the communes of Gia Binh district.

The single-clove garlic has been successfully produced in Gia Binh fields since 2017. Until now, it has expanded to grow in 6 communes including Xuan Lai, Van Ninh, Cao Duc, Thai Bao, Binh Duong and Dai Lai with an area of more than 20 hectares. The average yield of single-clove garlic is 280kg/acre; with a selling price of about VND 100,000 per kg, many times higher than traditional garlic. Especially, Gia Binh single-clove garlic is supplied to Nanocare R&D Company Limited (Xuan Lai commune) to process into products such as single-clove black garlic, tea, black garlic shampoo, etc. Among which, the single-clove black garlic is recognized as a 4-star OCOP product.

After more than 2 years of implementing tasks under the Project “Building, managing and promoting brand products in the Bac Ninh province’s OCOP Program” for the 2021-2025 period chaired by the Department of Science and Technology, up to now, the product “Gia Binh single-clove garlic” has met the criteria and regulations. It is granted a Certificate of Intellectual Property Protection by the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (Ministry of Science and Technology) according to Decision No. 113524/QD-SHTT. Its owner is the Gia Binh District People’s Committee.

At the ceremony, the leader of the Department of Science and Technology awarded the Certificate “Gia Binh single-clove garlic” to the People’s Committee of Gia Binh district. 20 typical producing households were awarded Certificates of right to use the Certified brand “Gia Binh single-clove garlic”.

The granting of the Certified brand “Gia Binh single-clove garlic” is an important basis for asserting rights to the product, and a basis for localities to plan the sustainable development of protected products. At the same time, people and enterprises can access preferential credit sources, apply scientific and technical advances, expand links, find consumer markets, support vocational training, and improve management capacity. As a result, they will contribute to increasing the product value, preserving and developing sustainable handicraft villages.
