Implementing the policies on fisheries production development of the Party and State in order to effectively exploit the water surface potential of Duong and Thai Binh rivers where have hydrological factors such as: oxygen, pH, temperature, water velocity reaching 0.2-0.3m/s, the depth>3.5m; water source not polluted by domestic wastewater, industrial waste and so on is very convenient for developing caged fishes. Some aquaculture households have strongly invested in raising caged fishes since 2011 with 4 households, 34 cages. Up to now, the whole province has 160 households raising fish in cages on the river, with the number of cages is 2,062 cages, be focused in the districts of Luong Tai, Que Vo, Gia Binh, Tien Du…

The model of caged fishes farming on the river has opened up a new direction, increasing fisheries production of the province, creating more jobs, improving income and living standards of people in the areas along Duong and Thai Binh rivers, and contributing to socio-economic development, protecting aquatic resources, promoting the development of supporting industries such as: production of fingerlings, food, drugs, chemicals for diseases prevention… Up to now, the output of commercial products fish raised in cages on the river has reached 6,235 tons, accounting for 16.5%, reaching 342,925 billion VND, accounting for 29.4% of the valuable manufacturing. The main fish breeds are: carp, grass carp, black carp, American catfish (black naked catfish), tilapia, red tilapia, and crispy carp, in addition to a number of new species, high economic valuable specialty fish such as: cranoglanis, Bagarius, spot naked catfish… Comparing with raising in pond, fish yield raised in cages is much higher (reaching 4-6 tons/cage with a water surface area of 36m2 which is equivalent to 108m3 water); while farming in medium ponds current average of 6.1 tons/ha (with a water surface area of 15,000m3 water). The valuable average of raising fish is 40-80 million VND/cage 108m3 (cage size 6mx6mx3m).

In the coming time, in order to maintain and develop caged fishes farming on the river, Bac Ninh province confirmed policy and orientation: Maintain a stable number of existing cages, associate development with connection of production organizations and building caged fishes brand name on the river. In that, focus on solutions to re-planning farming areas and scale, continue to issue appropriate policies and mechanisms to support production organization, provide market information and product consumption in order to improve production value towards sustainable development goal.
