The festival dates back to ancient times. Tu Buoi and Tu communes are Tu Buoi villages sharing a huge common home located in the center of the Southwest area, along the major road, ie provincial road 282 today, according to legend, history books, and folklore. The field now borders An Binh, Dai Bai, and Lang Ngam. The communal home is dedicated to the god "Lac Thi" of the Lac Long Quan lineage.
According to folklore, four Buoi villages once shared a community house known as the Bao Cai communal house. On festival days, all four villages parade the holy throne here to worship. After the battle, the villagers came to the Bao Cai communal house to bring worshiping things to their communal home. Following that, the four Buoi formed a Liaison Committee comprised of representatives from all four villages and agreed to alternately host the community's consecration.
The villages hold the ceremony to open the communal home door, set the worshiping objects, and blow the fan flag in the morning before the opening day, and the naturalization ceremony in the afternoon. On the main day of the festival, the villagers organize a procession from the village to the communal house to sacrifice and celebrate. Depending on which village "hosts," the other three Buoi villages will organize a procession of the throne to the communal house on the main day of the festival. The traditional procession is very tightly organized in sequence, displaying seriousness and grandeur, the most important being the procession of the remaining three villages to Dinh Doan Bai to sacrifice alongside the local god. Following the ceremony, there is a festival featuring many folk customs such as swinging trees, human chess, cockfighting, wrestling, and so on.
The residents of Buoi Doan village used to hold the Tu Communes Festival on April 9 to honor the God Hoang... Later, the residents of Buoi's four communes and villages held it on different days at the beginning of Spring. The festival, like the people of Buoi Doan - the "oldest brother" village - begins as early as the 7th day of the first lunar month. Buoi Cuoc will host a village celebration on February 4 of the lunar calendar, Buoi Xuyen on February 6, and Buoi Noi on April 10 of the lunar calendar.
The old Buoi village festival was held solemnly and dignified to commemorate the great merits of the village's tutelary god.
