Viet Nam observes World Prematurity Day 2024

Leaders and delegates launch the response to World Prematurity Day.

Attending the rally were Mr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health; Mr. Ngo Tan Phuong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Ms. Silvia Danailov, UNICEF Representative; more than 300 delegates representing central agencies; international and domestic organizations; the Department of Health and Center for Disease Control of 8 northern provinces, representatives from agencies, departments and branches of Bac Ninh province.

The day, falling on November 17 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness about infants born prematurely and the difficulties they face. The Ministry of Health launched the nationwide Peak Action Month for preterm babies from November 1 to November 30, 2024, and mobilized the community, ministries and sectors to participate in caring for pregnant women, preventing premature birth, and caring for and treating preterm babies.

Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan stated that reducing premature and low birth weight births, and consequently lowering infant mortality, required a unified approach.

He also said that this didn't just involve the efforts of the Health Sector, but also necessitated collaboration from various Ministries, local authorities, and the community at large.

Additionally, he highlighted the critical role of expectant mothers' awareness, along with the support of international and domestic organizations.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Vice Chairman Ngo Tan Phuong said that along with economic development, Bac Ninh always paid attention to developing the fields of culture, health, education and social security.

The Vice Chairman called on Party committees at all levels, local authorities and all people to join hands to respond more actively to reduce the rate of premature/low birth weight babies, care for, treat and nurture premature/low birth weight babies in the best way.

After the rally, the leaders and delegates visited and presented 100 gifts to the families of preterm and newborn babies being cared for and raised at Bac Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.
