Publishing photo book "Dien Bien Phu - Moments from history"

(BNP) - On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the National Politics and Truth Publishing House, the Hanoi Peace Institute (HANPRI) and the Media Joint Stock Company jointly published the photo book “Dien Bien Phu – Moments from history”.

The special publication "Dien Bien Phu - Moments from history" printed on high quality paper with dimensions of 24 x 25 cm with 286 pages of content. It is one of the very few publications presented simultaneously in 3 languages: Vietnamese - English - French. Through nearly 200 meticulously collected, filtered and selected photos, the book shows the perspectives of those who directly participated in or witnessed one of the most famous and influential battles that had the greatest influence on global events in the 20th century.

The book's content is divided into four chronological parts. Roads to Dien Bien Phu providing viewers with visual documents about the context and the underlying and direct causes of the Dien Bien "pan of fire" formation. Dien Bien Phu: "The poisonous boil" was unplanned helps to visualize the formation of a "hedgehog in the Northwest mountains and forests" from late 1953 to early March 3,1954. The firestorm provides a direct view of 56 fierce days and nights, also the process in which the "hedgehog" transformed from the scheme of a "Viet Minh meat grinder" into the "hell on earth" of the expeditionary army. Earth shaking shows the consequences and events that took place after May 7,1954.

Each page of the book contains photos of the historical and highly symbolic value of the event. Besides, there is documentary information to help readers grasp information about the general context and the specific time when the "historical moment" actually took place.

During the past 70 years, hundreds of memoirs, literary works, reference books, scientific research documents, etc. about the event that "sounded the final bell of old colonialism" have been published. However, this is the first time a publication with the most comprehensive, multi-dimensional and complete collection of images providing a true and panoramic view of the 1954 Dien Bien Phu event has been made.

The book was born after many years of painstakingly gathering and compiling documents, with the efforts of historical, international relations and media researchers such as: Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Chi Trung, PhD. Nguyen Dinh Thuan, journalist Dang Bao Trung, journalist Bui Xuan An, young designer Nguyen Hoang Khoi... With the advice and help of many experts such as: the late Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Professor and People's Artist Vu Duong Ninh, Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Lieutenant General Vu Chien Thang, Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh, Dr. Le Kien Thanh, Colonel Dao Chi Cong, writer Binh Ca, and many international scholars.
