9th National Sports Congress opens

(BNP) - On December 9, at Sun Carnival Plaza (Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and People's Committee of Quang Ninh province jointly held an opening ceremony of the 9th National Sports Congress with the theme "For a prosperous Vietnam".


Central and local leaders attended the opening ceremony of the 9th National Sports Congress.

Attending the opening ceremony were: Mr. Vu Duc Dam, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Prime Minister; Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Head of the Steering Committee for the 9th National Sports Congress; Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security; Lieutenant General Nguyen Doan Anh, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; leaders of a number of ministries and branches of the Central Government, Quang Ninh province and some localities nationwide.

The opening ceremony of the 9th National Sports Congress in 2022 includes 3 chapters: Vietnamese aspiration; Convergence and diffusion; For a prosperous Vietnam. In particular, the art performances will focus on portraying the “Dynamic – Creative – Generous – Civilized – Friendly” temperament of Quang Ninh’s people. The congress was attended by about 11,000 delegates and people.

At the opening ceremony, the Bac Ninh delegation participated in the parade with 51 members, including 10 people wearing Quan Ho costumes to show the identity of Bac Ninh - Kinh Bac homeland.


Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam announced the opening of the Congress.

The 9th National Sports Congress is the largest sporting event in the history of national sports events with more than 17,000 participants. Of which, there are more than 10,000 athletes representing 63 provinces, cities and armed forces, competing in 43 sports.

Attending this congress, Bac Ninh sports delegation sent nearly 180 coaches and athletes to compete in 15 subjects (Wrestling, Karate, Boxing, Kickboxing, Fencing, Wushu, Judo, Kurash, Badminton, Weightlifting, Athletics, Pencak Silat, Tennis, Push-Put, Women's Volleyball), aiming to win 10-15 gold medals, ranking 22-25 out of a total of 65 participating sports teams.

Besides, this Congress, Bac Ninh hosted 3 sports: Boxing, Tennis and Indoor Handball. Of which, Boxing takes place from December 12 to 20 at the Provincial Multi-Purpose Gymnasium (Bac Ninh City); Tennis takes place from December 10 to 19 at the Hanaka Paris Ocean Park Tennis Court and Indoor Handball will organize from December 13 to 20 at Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports (Tu Son city). As of December 9, Bac Ninh delegation won 2 gold medals and 7 bronze medals.
