Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Tan Phuong attended the meeting at Bac Ninh’s venue.

The Prime Minister authorized the implementation plan for the VIII Power Plan on April 1, 2024 (Decision No. 262/QD-TTg).  The purpose of the plan is to effectively implement the Prime Minister's Decision approving the VIII Power Plan; develop a roadmap to effectively implement projects/projects to meet the set goals of the VIII Power Plan; meet the electricity demand for socioeconomic development in each period, ensure electricity is one step ahead; strongly transition from fossil fuels to new energy sources, renewable energy to reduce environmental pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the Institute of Energy's Project to Adjust the Power Plan VIII, the total power capacity serving domestic demand (excluding exports, cogeneration sources, and risky thermal power) is 183,291 - 236,363 MW, up approximately 27,747 - 80,819 MW from the approved Power Plan VIII.  Domestic coal-fired and gas-fired thermal power remain unchanged from the Power Plan VIII; LNG thermal power 8,824 MW decreased from the Power Plan VIII by 13,576 MW due to the assessment of slow progress of power sources; and hydropower 33,294 - 34,667 increased from the Power Plan VIII by 4,560 - 5,275 MW.

At the conference, representatives from some units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, leaders of some central ministries and branches, and leaders of some provinces and cities mostly agreed on the content of the VIII Power Plan revision.  At the same time, they contributed opinions on some issues such as: the suitability of the project's content to adjust the VIII Power Plan when adjusting; the ability to meet the electricity demand for the country's socioeconomic development and the people's living needs in each period, with the goal of socioeconomic development reaching "double digits" by 2030; the feasibility of the electricity development plan and project;...

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested that localities continue to closely coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in developing plans to adjust the VIII Power Plan; proactively develop local power source plans to ensure consistency and harmony with the VIII Power Plan; the implementation of local power projects must comply with the State's legal regulations; corporations, particularly the Vietnam Electricity Group, must proactively develop lists of power projects.
