An athlete of Bac Ninh wins gold medal at the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2019

(BNP) - In the afternoon of April 11, the Provincial Center for Sports Coaching and Competition welcomed athlete Tran Dang Minh Quang, who had played at the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2019.

Leaders of the Provincial Center for Sports Coaching and Competition and family gave flowers to Tran Dang Minh Quang.

The 2019 Asian Youth Chess Championship taken place April 1-10 in Sri Lanka, involved 532 athletes from 23 countries and territories, including: Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Taiwan (China), United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

The tournament is divided into 12 groups of male and female according to the ages of Under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. The athletes compete in 3 categories, namely, Fast chess, Blitz chess, Standard chess for 108 medals. In particular, the standard chess content competed for 9 games, while fast chess and Blitz chess will include 7 games.

The Vietnamese delegation participated in the tournament with 35 athletes, competed for all categories and won 8 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals, compared with 2018, increased 1 gold medal (7 gold medals, 23 silver medals, and 12 bronze medals). With those achievements, Vietnam ranked 01st of the champions.

Bac Ninh province has the participation of Tran Dang Minh Quang who excellently won 6 medals of all kinds including 1 individual gold medal in the Blitz chess content; 3 team gold medals in 3 categories and 2 individual silver medals in Fast chess and Standard Chess.

Previously, in 2017, athlete Tran Dang Minh Quang was dispatched to compete in the Asian Youth Chess Championship in Uzbekistan and won 1 Silver medal in the content of the Blitz chess for U12 age. For the first time, Bac Ninh Chess has won medals in the continent arena.
