Kinh Duong Vuong festival - Traditional beauty of Vietnamese people

(BNP) – Traditional rituals and a line-up of cultural activities featured in the Kinh Duong Vuong festival, which opened at the historical Kinh Duong Vuong-Lac Long Quan-Au Co temple and royal tomb complex in Thuan Thanh district, in the northern province of Bac Ninh.

Located on a hill by the Duong river, Kinh Duong Vuong mausoleum is surrounded by ancient trees. To the west of the village, there are two old temples. The first is dedicated to Kinh Duong Vuong and the second is in honor of Lac Long Quan and Au Co, who were the parents of the Hung Kings. The tomb and temple complex was badly destroyed by the French between 1949 and 1952, but was restored in 1971 by the locals. In 2000, a temple dedicated to the founders of the nation was erected on this site. Like most other temples in Vietnam, it is inspired by traditional Oriental architecture. The site consists of three main buildings: the front, the middle and the inner houses.

The festival begins with a series of traditional rituals of worship in the temple such as procession of water from the river and plaques of tutelary god from some villages to the Kinh Duong Vuong temple. The procession always consists of special cultural activities such as lion and dragon dance, etc.

After the solemn ceremony, the festival is also took place with many rich cultural activities such as singing Quan ho folk songs on the boat, Cheo, Tuong, Ca Tru, water puppetry, and the Trong Quan singing which is a longstanding, unique kind of art of the people in Thuan Thanh district. Besides, many folk games imbued with traditional cultural identities are also included to serve the people and tourists such as keo co (dragging), dap nieu (beating pots), to tom diem (Vietnamese cards), co tuong (Chinese chess), volleyball, dau vat (wrestling), etc. The organization board also has an exhibition of products from handicraft villages, included Luy Lau pottery, Dong Ho folk paintings, Dinh To soy sauce, Bui Xa pork roll, Ho chicken contest, etc.

Besides, when people attending Kinh Duong Vuong festival, theY not only have the opportunity to commemorate the Vietnamese ancestor, attend the community cultural activities of the people here but also have the opportunity to visit the famous cultural history of Thuan Thanh hometown such as Dau Pagoda, But Thap Pagoda, Dong Ho folk painting village...

The festival of the Kinh Duong Vuong Temple takes place annually from the 16th to the 18th day of the first lunar month to pay tribute to the first king of the nation. The festival is also an opportunity for Vietnamese people inside and outside the country to express their pride, and national solidarity and contribute to preserving the site. In addition, the festival aims to honour Kinh Duong Vuong - the first king of the Vietnamese people and founder of the Hong Bang Dynasty, as well as to uphold the nation’s cultural tradition and enhance solidarity among Vietnamese people.
