Scientific workshop on building state management apparatus for food safety held

(BNP) – On November 29, the Provincial Food Safety Management Board held a scientific workshop on “Building a state management apparatus for food safety according to Directive No. 17-CT/TW dated October 21, 2022 of the Central Secretariat on strengthening food security and safety in the new situation”.

The workshop was attended by leaders from the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health), the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City, the Food Safety Management Board of Da Nang City, the Department of Health, and the Food Safety Sub-Departments of several provinces and cities across the country; leaders of several departments, branches, sectors of the province, districts, towns, and cities; and representatives from food-producing and trading enterprises.

In his opening speech, Head of the Provincial Food Safety Management Board Nguyen Vinh Thanh affirmed that since the establishment of the Provincial Food Safety Management Board, with the attention and leadership of the Central Government and the province as well as the efforts of the entire political system, the work of ensuring food security and safety in the province has achieved encouraging results. Information and propaganda work has been carried out in a rich and diverse manner; the number of persons trained and disseminated knowledge has nearly doubled. Inspection and examination work has become more unified and efficient…From 2021 to now, there has been no case of poisoning with more than 30 people infected...

He said that the state management apparatus for food safety nationwide currently has 4 specific models: the Department of Food Safety (Ho Chi Minh City), the Food Safety Management Board (Da Nang City, Bac Ninh Province), the Food Safety Sub-Department and Food Safety Division under the Department of Health. Each model has its own advantages and limitations. Currently, there is still no state management model for food safety that ensures effectiveness, efficiency, and non-overlapping in accordance with the new situation in the spirit of Directive No. 17-CT/TW dated October 21, 2022 of the Central Secretariat.

The workshop received 25 presentations, 12 of which were delivered directly at the session. The presentations focused on clarifying the following issues: the importance of ensuring food safety and security in the new situation; sharing the current situation of ensuring food safety and security in localities; analyzing, evaluating, and exchanging the current situation of the state management apparatus on food safety and the advantages, difficulties, and shortcomings of the state management model on food safety in localities… to further promote the work of ensuring food safety and security in the new situation, contributing to protecting and improving people's health./.
