The 10th anniversary of Quan Ho Bac Ninh folk songs honored by UNESCO

(BNP) - In the evening of February 23rd, at the Square of Kinh Bac Cultural Center, Provincial Party Committee, People's Committee, People's Committee, Fatherland Front Committee solemnly held the Festival of "Arrive in Quan Ho land 2019" and the 10th anniversary of Quan Ho Bac Ninh folk songs recognized as the Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam awards Certificate of Merit of the Prime Minister to the Party, the Authority and people of Bac Ninh province.

In his speech, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tu Quynh emphasized, after a decade of being recognized as the Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Bac Ninh has constantly made efforts to seriously implement commitments with UNESCO, actively preserving and enriching heritage values, bringing great spiritual and material significance to today's and future generations.

Bac Ninh has honored and appreciated the "living human treasures", and conferred titles on 71 artisans and 05 meritorious artisans, performed monthly financial support for artisans and remuneration policies for artists of Quan Ho Folk Songs Theater, and expanded forms of teaching Quan Ho in the community and included this type of folk songs in the formal curriculum of schools.

In addition, the province has promoted the construction of the performance space of Quan Ho: restoring and embellishing the historical relics of the Quan Ho’s ancestor; putting into use 08 Quan Ho hosting houses. In particular, it has basically completed the Quan Ho folk songs Theater project with magnificent scale, unique architecture, showing harmonious combination between tradition and modernity. Bac Ninh also built a Center for storage, conservation, and exploitation, implemented 30 thematic studies, recorded 107 ancient Quan Ho songs, and published 09 books on Quan Ho folk songs. Quan Ho villages and clubs have been encouraged to develop. From only 49 original Quan Ho villages and 34 Quan Ho clubs, so far there have been 369 new Quan Ho villages, 381 clubs in the province with over 10,000 participants, particularly thousands of people are capable of transmitting Quan Ho.

Nowadays, there are 140 Quan Ho clubs in other provinces, many communities abroad including many people who are not from Kinh Bac but still participate in activities because of their love to Quan ho folk songs. Quan Ho spreads and develops throughout the villages, in every hamlet and street corner, becoming a characteristic culture of the Kinh Bac land, contributing to the cultural integration process with the world.

Praising and congratulating Bac Ninh Party Committee, authority and people on great achievements in recent years, in the period of integration and development, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said, the people have to be the central role for the preservation of Quan Ho folk songs. The responsibility to preserve and promote the folk heritage values of Quan Ho does not only stop within Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces but also in the whole country, with all Vietnamese in the country and abroad. Furthermore, it is not only the responsibility of today's generation with history but also an important solution, turning these legacies into a source of motivation of Vietnamese people to unite creatively and strive to build and protect the nation.

On behalf of the leaders of the Party and the State, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam awarded the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to the Party Committee, authority and people of Bac Ninh province for achievements in the preservation and promotion of values of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Quan Ho Bac Ninh folk songs.

As soon as the ceremony ended, the audience enjoyed the art program themed "The radiant Quan Ho land" with the participation of nearly 1,000 artists from the theaters and art delegations of the central agencies and Bac Ninh province.
