The 10th National Fencing Youth Championship in 2019 opens

(BNP) – In the evening of December 18th, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the General Department of Sports (the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) organized the opening of the 10th National Fencing Youth Championship in 2019 at Phu Son Sport and Cultural Tourism Center.

The tournament this year attracted 147 athletes from 8 provinces, cities and sectors throughout the country including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Duong, Public Security. The athletes competed in 3 categories such as foil, sabre and épée and divided into 2 groups of age: under 17 years old and from 18 to 20 years old, to vie for 21 sets of medals. In particular, under the age of 17, the athletes compete in individual content; ages 18-20 years, athletes compete both individual and team content in the form of a knockout match.

Attending the tournament, Bac Ninh team had 25 athletes participating in 2 groups of ages and competing in all three categories (saber, foil and epee).

The tournament is an opportunity for young athletes to fight and gain experience in fencing. Through the tournament, organizers will select outstanding athletes to join the national fencing team participating in regional and international tournaments, Olympic 2020.

The 10th National Fencing Championships will be taken place from December 18th to December 26th, 2019 at Gymnasium of Bac Ninh province.
