Viet Nam National Committee on Aging deploys tasks in 2024
(BNP) - On March 12, in Hanoi, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Chairman of the Viet Nam National Committee on Aging (Committee) chaired a conference to summarize the work in 2023, directions and tasks in 2024 of the Committee.
Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Vuong Quoc Tuan presided over the conference at Bac Ninh’s venue.
Participants at Bac Ninh’s venue were Mr. Vuong Quoc Tuan, Alternate member of the Party Central Committee and Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; leaders of relevant departments, branches and sectors.
In 2023, Vietnam Association of the Elderly successfully completed its assigned tasks, continued to unite and unify to build a strong association, affirming itself as an important force. It actively participated in building the Party and political system, thereby, contributing to the construction and protection of the Fatherland.
During the year, the Association admitted more than 466 thousand new members in the country; issued more than 2 million blank membership cards; and awarded more than 8 thousand medals. It propagated and disseminated health care knowledge to over 2.5 million elderly people. More than 3.5 million elderly people have their health monitoring records created, and 4.5 million elderly people received regular health checks, etc.
Speaking at Bac Ninh’s venue, Head of the Provincial Association of the Elderly Vu Ba Rong noted that in 2023, all levels of the Provincial Association of the Elderly organized longevity celebrations for more than 21 thousand elderly people; visited and gave gifts to more than 40 thousand poor, lonely and homeless elderly people in difficult circumstances. Especially, in Bac Ninh, the elderly from 70-79 years old are entitled to benefits (10 years earlier than the central government), in 2024, the elderly aged 60 and over will begin to receive support in purchasing health insurance, he added.
Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Chairman of the Committee suggested that in the coming time, the Central ministries, branches and agencies would well implement policies and laws for the elderly.
People’s Committees of the provinces and centrally-run cities will allocate resources to ensure full implementation of the policies for the elderly according to regulations; propagandize and raise awareness of party committees and authorities about laws and policies for the elderly. At the same time, competent authorities promulgate a plan to implement Conclusion no. 58-KL/TW dated June 23, 2023 of the Secretariat on organization and operation of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, and strive to complete 100% of elderly associations in localities throughout the country by the end of the third quarter of 2024.
