(BNP) - The custom of twinning  between Tam Tao village (Phu Lam commune, Tien Du district, Bac Ninh province) and Xuan Duc village (Yen Thuong commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi city) has existed since ancient times. Until now, it is still preserved and promoted, becoming a beautiful traditional cultural beauty between the two villages.

“Kết chạ” is a form of twinning between two villages, which they treat to each other as brothers. According to documents still kept at Tam Tao communal house, in the year of At Hoi (1815), Tam Tao village went to Thang Long capital to buy wood for a communal house. When the big wooden raft arrived in Xuan Duc village, it ran aground. Seeing this, Xuan Duc village mobilized human and material resources to help, creating favorable conditions for transporting wooden rafts to Tam Tao.

At the Tam Tao common house's inauguration, Tam Tao village agreed to send a delegation to Xuan Duc village's communal house to express gratitude and request the closure ceremony. Since then, the two villages have been closely linked and travel together, treating each other as blood brothers, but no one is a brother, and no one is a younger brother. Tam Tao calls Xuan Duc as "Uncle" (brother), and Xuan Duc does the same whenever they meet. Specifically, boys and girls from the two villages are not permitted to marry each other.

The two villages send delegations to participate in the significant events and festivals every year. This year, the festival is on the 10th day of the second lunar month. Tam Tao village welcomes Uncle Xuan Duc.
