Goyang - Tourist destination of Korea

Goyang City is located just northwest of Seoul and, with a population of more than one million, is the largest city in northern Gyeonggi-do (the second largest city in the province after Suwon). The name ‘Goyang’ is derived from the names Gobong and Deokyang, which were two counties that were joined together in 1413 by King Taejong. Goyang city is becoming one of the 21st century's representative cities in Korea that is based on time-honored history and tradition. Goyang is now designated as a special city in Korea along with Suwon, Yongin and Changwon.

Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX).

It has Bukhansan Mountain and Han River flowing to the west, as the center of the capital since ancient times. There are famous cultural heritages such as Seooreung, Seosamneung, Bukhansanseong, Haengju Sanseong, recognized by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage.

Haengjusanseong Fortress.

Haengjusanseong Fortress was the representative fortress during periods of the Three States and Joseon. It is a well-known battle field where Gweon Yul Dowonsu (the chief of province) and his 3,000 of army defeated 30,000 of Japanese during Imjinwaeran (Japanese Invasion of Korea) in 1593. The famous battle is called Haengjudaecheop. Haengju Sanseong Sunrise Festival, held every January 1^st.

In addition, Goyang city is also being noticed as a medical tourism center with 5 general hospitals and more than 1,000 other hospitals, including the National Cancer Center, a most prestigious cancer treatment facility in Korea.

The typical dishes of Goyang City are Teollegi (noodles with spicy fish stew,) Ilsan kalguksu noodles and anchovy salad.
