Introduce 11 tourist destinations in the province

(BNP) - Bac Ninh Portal introduces 11 tourist destinations where have been recognized by the Provincial People's Committee according to Decision No.2393/QD-UBND.

Water Communal House of Do Temple where worships kings of Ly dynasty

1. Tomb and Temple of Ly dynasty’s kings

Do Temple in Dinh Bang ward, Tu Son town is the place to worship the Ly dynasty’s emperors, who had the merit of enlightening Thang Long (an ancient name of Hanoi Capital) and expanding Dai Viet (an ancient name of Vietnam) civilization. In 2014, the Prime Minister signed a Decision to rank the Tomb and Temple of Ly dynasty’s kings as a special national relic, further affirming the cultural value, long history of Bac Ninh homeland.

2. Phat Tich pagoda

Phat Tich pagoda, one of the very first places where Buddhism was spread from India to Vietnam, was built in 1057, at time of Ly dynasty. Ten animal stone statues including lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, horses lying on the stone lotus pedestal in front of the three-arched-entrances gate are one of three groups of artifacts of Bac Ninh province recognized as National treasures in 2017.

Every year, on the 4th day of the Lunar New Year, the Phat Tich pagoda starts a traditional festival to commemorate the merits of the predecessors who have built and developed the pagoda.

 


But Thap pagoda

3. But Thap pagoda

Located in But Thap village, Dinh To commune, Thuan Thanh district, But Thap pagoda is a long-standing ancient and large-scale temple preserving the old architectural style. The pagoda is famous for its unique architectural art, charming scenery and possesses the biggest wooden statue of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara with One Thousand Hands and One Thousand Eyes in Vietnam.

But Thap pagoda’s festival is held on the 23rd, 24th of March (in lunar calendar) with traditional cultural activities, contributing to preserving and promoting the identity of national culture.

4. Dau pagoda

Located in Thanh Khuong commune, Thuan Thanh district, Dau pagoda was built in 187 and completed in 226, and is a root of Vietnamese Buddhism, ranked as the national historical site on April 4th, 1962.

On April 8th (in lunar calendar), Dau pagoda held the traditional festival to pray for favorable weather, which is the aspiration for thousands of generations of agricultural inhabitants.

 


 Kinh Duong Vuong Tomb and Temple

5. Kinh Duong Vuong Tomb and Temple

Kinh Duong Vuong Tomb and Temple, the most sacred place from ancient time, were built a very long time ago on the southern bank of Duong river, belonging to A Lu village, Dai Dong Thanh commune, Thuan Thanh district. So far, it has been the only place in Vietnam with the remains of the Vietnamese ancestor, Kinh Duong Vuong (father of Lac Long Quan, grandfather of Hung King), and it has been classified as a national historical relic by the State in 1993.

To remember the origin of the nation, on January 17 and 18 (in lunar calendar), the local authority and people organize a solemn festival with many typical cultural rituals and activities in the region.

6. The memorial house of General Secretary Nguyen Van Cu

Comrade Nguyen Van Cu was born on July 9, 1912, in a poor intellectual family in Phu Khe village, Phu Khe commune, Tu Son town. He was admitted to the Communist Party in 1929 and became Party General Secretary, at the age of 26, in March 1938. He has many outstanding contributions to the Party and revolution on building the movement and methods of revolutionary struggle. The memorial house of former General Secretary Nguyen Van Cu is a place to display materials and artifacts, which not only relate to the revolution lifetime but also the childhood years of former General Secretary Nguyen Van Cu.

 

Tam Phu temple

7. Tam Phu temple

Located in Cao Duc commune, Gia Binh district, Tam Phu is a temple worshiping Mother Goddesses built up by the local people a very long time ago on Nguyet Ban floating bank to pay tributes to three gods of Sky, Land, and Water. Tam Phu temple holds the artistic architecture of the Le – Nguyen dynasties period, but its outstanding value is building the temple on Nguyet Ban floating bank where was an important military location in the resistance against the Mongol invasions during Tran dynasty. Nguyet Ban floating bank and Tam Phu temple were ranked by the Provincial People's Committee as a cultural and historical site on August 16th, 2007.

 

Bac Ninh Literature Temple is a place to honor the doctorates of Kinh Bac region.

8. Bac Ninh Temple of Literature

Bac Ninh Temple of Literature was built at the time of the Le Dynasty, and in 1893, it was transferred to Phuc Son Mountain (in Dai Phuc ward, Bac Ninh city).

Bac Ninh Temple of Literature is a typical project reflecting the academic history of Bac Ninh - Kinh Bac region. The temple is to worship Confucius and to honor doctorates of royal exams during feudal period of the whole Kinh Bac region. The system of stone steles in Bac Ninh Temple of Literature is precious artifacts providing us with many historical, cultural, educational and artistic values, reflecting the aesthetic and talented views of Kinh Bac people in the 19th and early 20th century.

 


Le Van Thinh Temple

9. Temple of Le Van Thinh

According to the legend of the temple, Le Van Thinh was born on December 11, 1050, in Dong Cuu commune, Gia Binh district. Ranking first in the first imperial exam of first the Lý Dynasty in 1075, Lê Văn Thịnh was appointed a tutor for Ly Nhan Tong King and was gradually promoted to the position of Chancellor of the Ly dynasty in 1085 for his achievements and contribution to the country. Le Van Thinh brought all his talents and wisdom to dedicate to the construction, renewal of dynasty and renovate the country.

At present, Le Van Thinh temple is located right on Thien Thai Mountain in Bao Thap village, Dong Cuu commune, Gia Binh district.

 

Temple of Lady King of Quan ho folksongs

10. Diem Village (Viem Xa)

Diem village is sacred land, where has a temple worshipping the Lady King of Quan ho folksongs. Mother of Quan Ho was the daughter of the sixth Hung King, who was swept away by a storm in the spring contemplative traveling and taken to Viem Trang village (Diem village). Due to finding a beautiful place with both mountains and rivers, she immediately cleared the wasteland, the beach by teaching people how to cultivate, grow mulberry, raise silkworm, weave, etc. She also composed the lyrics, singing to motivate people for ardent labor. These tunes have been imparted, developed generation by generation and known as Quan Ho. After her death, the village remembered by building the temple as it is today.

The Diem village festival takes place in 3 days, from February 6th (in lunar calendar), demonstrating the respect and gratitude of the villagers to the Lady King of Quan ho folksongs.

 

Gate of Ba Chua Kho Temple

11. Ba Chua Kho (Lady of the Storehouse) Temple

The temple was built during the Ly Dynasty (1010-1225) and recognized as a national cultural historical site in 1989. The festival of Ba Chua Kho temple, in Co Me village, Vu Ninh ward, Bac Ninh city took place on the 14th day of the first lunar month, to commemorate the anniversary of Ba Chua Kho's death anniversary.

Legend has it that she was the one who looked after the food storehouse very well during and after the victory of the Song (Chinese) army at Nhu Nguyet river combat (Cau river) in 1076. When she passed away, the local inhabitants set up the temple to honor her merits. Every year, there are a very large number of tourists across the country coming to the temple, especially on the festival day, to pray for their wealth and borrow money for their business in the whole year.
