(BNP) – In order to connect the economic development with the preservation of the pottery village’s culture, Bac Ninh recently focused on deploying the pottery development project in Phu Lang commune (Que Vo town), which is sponsored by JICA (Japan) and implemented by Onimaru Co., Ltd. and Toho village.

The project is carried out in 3 years (from 2021 to 2023) with the focus on training and improving pottery techniques for the people in Phu Lang village.

The People’s Committee of Phu Lang commune sent 80 trainees from the pottery village to participate in a training course. The course was directly taught by artisans from Toho pottery village (Japan) with their techniques such as Japanese pottery making techniques combined with traditional techniques of the craft village, from kneading the soil and broaching the product to covering the finished product with yeast. In addition, the trainees also learnt the technique of creating unique terracotta products. As a result, Toho pottery village artisans would select and take 15 skilled trainees to Japan with the aim of improving their pottery techniques following the Japanese methods.

The project aims to support, disseminate and instruct the pottery techniques by using Japanese methods and techniques which help provide the standard, high quality and well-designed products. It also preserves and develops pottery making for future generations and local economic development. At the same time, it promotes Phu Lang pottery products to the world and make a plan for development of Phu Lang pottery making in the future as well as cooperate with Japan. Especially, cultural and economic exchange between Bac Ninh and Fukuoka prefecture (Japan) will be enhanced, thereby, contributing to the consolidation of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.
