Index of industrial production increases simultaneously in all 34 localities

(BNP) - The report on the socio-economic situation in August and the first 8 months of the General Statistics Office, Ministry of Finance, shows that the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in the first 8 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year recorded positive signals, increasing in all 34 localities. In the first 8 months, the IIP nationwide increased by 8.5% compared to the same period last year.

The processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10.0% (increased by 9.5% in the same period in 2024), contributing 8.1 percentage points to the overall growth; the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 9.1% (increased by 9.2% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.1 percentage point; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 4.9% (increased by 11.7% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.5 percentage point.

The IIP of some key secondary industries in the first 8 months increased compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the production of motor vehicles increased by 27.4%; the production of rubber and plastic products increased by 17.5%; the production of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 15.0%; the production of garments increased by 13.9%; and the production of leather and related products increased by 13.4%.

While, the IIP index of some industries increased slightly or decreased: Hard coal and lignite mining increased by 3.9%; beverage production increased by 2.6%; crude oil and natural gas exploitation decreased by 5.5%.

Since the beginning of the year, a number of key industrial products have recorded increases compared to the same period last year, including: Automobiles increased by 59.6%; televisions increased by 21.4%; NPK mixed fertilizer increased by 17.9%; casual clothes increased by 14.7%; cement increased by 14.6%; leather shoes and sandals increased by 13.9%.

In August alone, IIP was estimated to increase by 2.2% compared to the previous month and 8.9% compared to the same period last year. Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 9.5%; the mining industry increased by 9.1%; and electricity production and distribution increased by 6.1%.

As of August 1, the number of workers working in industrial enterprises increased by 0.9% compared to the same period last month and increased by 4.7% compared to the same period last year./.
