The lantern work "Kinh Bac Heritage" is one of 15 works that advanced to the final stage of the 2025 International Lantern Competition.
With the theme "Oriental Light", the 2025 International Lantern Competition serves as both a cultural bridge, enhancing international exchanges, and a contribution to instilling a love of life and disseminating hope, strength, and light into the future. The gorgeous and majestic lantern clusters will be displayed along a 2 km route at Vinhomes Ocean Park 2 (Hung Yen), an art-loving and spring-traveling destination that millions of tourists must see.
Bac Ninh has a lantern work "Kinh Bac Heritage" designed by a group of artist Le Xuan Khanh and artisan of Dong Ho folk painting village - Nguyen Huu Hoa, which will be honored and lit up at the International Lantern Festival taking place in Ocean City (Hanoi) from January 18 to March 16, 2025.
The "Kinh Bac Heritage" lantern stands 4 meters tall, weighs around 200 kilograms, and features a three-tiered base with stylized lotus petals associated with Quan Ho singers. The lantern frame is made of mahogany wood and has LED lights that rotate 360 degrees at a rate of 2 to 5 revolutions per minute. The ornamental motifs on the lantern include Dong Ho folk paintings and several national treasures of Bac Ninh.
The design idea of the work is taken from the model of the tower of But Thap Pagoda, using mahogany from Dong Ky craft village to recreate the Kinh Bac cultural space, simulate the unique architecture and combine images of typical cultural heritages in a stylized and renewed way using light and color. The lantern design competition aims to showcase the unique values of Bac Ninh - Kinh Bac cultural heritage to both domestic and international audiences. It also recognizes the importance of preserving and promoting traditional cultural heritage in modern times.
