(BNP) - The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has recently issued Decision No. 374/QD-BVHTTDL approving the adjustment of the Tourism System Planning for the 2021 - 2030 period with a vision to 2045. The goal is to transform tourism into a spearhead economic sector, making a significant contribution to economic growth and the sustainable development of the country.

According to the adjusted planning, the tourism industry is directed to develop in a professional, modern, and in-depth manner, enhancing quality, efficiency, and competitiveness. Along with increasing the volume of visitors, the planning focuses on elevating value-added contributions, increasing the share in GDP, and creating a ripple effect for other industries and sectors.

Vietnam's tourism continues to develop both international and domestic markets simultaneously, in which international tourism serves as a key driving force, while the domestic market remains a stable and high-potential foundation. The planning also emphasizes the requirement to strengthen regional and inter-regional linkages, forming tourism corridors associated with domestic and international economic corridors.

By 2030, the tourism industry strives to welcome between 45–50 million international visitors, serve approximately 160 million domestic visitors, contribute directly about 14% to the GDP, and create around 12 million jobs, including 4 million direct jobs. The system of tourist accommodation establishments is expected to reach approximately 2.5 million rooms nationwide.

One of the highlights of the planning is the development of tourism toward a green, sustainable, and circular economy. Accordingly, by 2030, 100% of tourist areas, attractions, accommodation establishments, and coastal tourism services will not use single-use plastic products and non-biodegradable plastic bags.

In terms of development space, the planning identifies tourism development associated with major urban centers such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, along with specific tourist cities like Ha Long, Sa Pa, Hoi An, Phu Quoc, and others. These will serve as hubs for developing high-quality tourism products linked to cultural industries and the night economy.

The planning also determines that the private sector plays the leading role in investment for tourism development. The state budget will focus on key tasks such as digital transformation, promotion and marketing, human resource training, and the protection of resources and the environment, contributing to enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam's tourism in the new period./.
