Many unique cultural and artistic activities take place at Hung Kings’ Temple Festival 2024
(BNP) - Hung Kings’ death anniversary - Hung Kings’ Temple Festival and Culture - Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land in Giap Thin - 2024 will take place from April 9 to the end of April 18 (i.e. from March 1 to the end of March 10 in lunar calendar) in Viet Tri city, Hung Kings Temple Complex and other communes, townships and cities of Phu Tho province.

Hung Kings’ Temple Festival aka Hung Kings’ death anniversary, is a sacred festival of the Vietnamese nation, to commemorate and express gratitude for the Hung Kings’ merits of establishing the country, the first kings of the nation. According to legend, Lac Long Quan and Au Co are considered the Vietnamese ancestors, the Hung Kings’ parents. The festival takes place on the 10th day of the third lunar month at Hung Kings’ Temple, Viet Tri, Phu Tho.
According to tradition, this year’s ceremony will include: The Death Anniversary of Father Lac Long Quan and offering incense to commemorate Mother Au Co on April 14 (i.e. March 6). Hung Kings’ death anniversary and offering flowers at the relief “Uncle Ho talks to officers and soldiers of the Pioneer Army” on April 18 (i.e. March 10). Incense offering ceremony to commemorate the Hung Kings of districts, townships and cities in Phu Tho province will take place from April 9 to April 18.
The festival will feature activities associated with tourism, forming an activity series of Culture - Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land. Therefore, it expresses unique cultural identity, creates attractiveness, attracts tourists, and widely promotes Phu Tho's potential, strengths, and cultural tourism resources.
The highlight is the festival’s opening ceremony taking place on April 9. It is held at the festival’s central stage of Hung Kings Temple Complex. On the evening of April 17, a unique and attractive art program, and high-altitude firework shooting will take place at Van Lang park lake.
Other activities also take place such as: displaying the World Documentary Heritage "National names of Van Lang capital and Vietnamese capitals in Nguyen Dynasty woodblocks" at Hung Kings’ Museum; exhibiting fine arts with the theme “Homeland, country and people of Phu Tho” at Hung Kings’ Museum; performing folk song and some types of intangible cultural heritage that have been recognized (Xoan singing, Chau van, Quan ho, drums, and Cheo). A program entitled “Xoan Festival - Heritage Region” will take place on the 6th day of the third lunar month and set a record of 5,000 people participating in Xoan singing, etc.
In addition, there are also a series of attractive events with nearly 20 cultural, sports and tourism activities including: volleyball tournament with strong teams competing for the Hung Kings’ Cup; open swimming competition at Van Lang park lake; Contest of wrapping, cooking Chung cake, and pounding Giay cake at Hung Kings Temple Complex; OCOP Phu Tho trade fair and product display, and so on.
Hung Kings’ death anniversary - Hung Kings’ Temple Festival and Culture - Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land in Giap Thin – 2024 is held to educate patriotic traditions and deep gratitude to the Hung Kings and the predecessors who have built and protected the country. It further educates the moral tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source” and the strength of great national unity towards the origin, gratitude to the ancestors. The festival also propagandizes and promotes cultural heritage associated with tourism development for the needs of people and tourists.
