Bac Ninh boxer wins an official ticket to 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games
(BNP) - From March 3 to 11, the Asia/Pacific Olympic boxing qualifying tournament finally gets underway in Jordan with the participation of more than 220 athletes from 35 countries and territories.
Boxer Nguyen Van Duong (in the middle) wins an official ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Vietnam Boxing Team has 04 athletes participating in the tournament, among which, 2 athletes from Bac Ninh including Nguyen Van Duong (57kg) and Nguyen Manh Cuong (81kg). These are all the top players of the provincial team as well as the current national team. Both of them have won silver medals at the 30th SEA Games.
Boxer Nguyen Van Duong won his berth after knocking down Chatchai Decha Butdee of Thailand in the Asia/Oceania Olympic boxing qualifying tournament early March 10 morning (Hanoi time) in Amman, Jordan. Apart from a berth in the semi-finals, Duong also secured a slot in the Tokyo Games as per the rules of the event. This is a historic achievement of Bac Ninh Boxing as well as the National Boxing team.
Before Duong, four Vietnamese Olympic qualifiers are swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, gymnast Le Thanh Tung and archers Do Thi Anh Nguyet and Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu./.
