Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Singing Contest – Quy Mao Spring 2023 opens
(BNP) – In the morning of February 22, at the Quan Ho Folk Song Theater in Bac Ninh (Viem Xa area, Hoa Long ward), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held the opening ceremony of the Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Singing Contest – Quy Mao Spring 2023.
Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan and Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huong Giang present commemorative flags to the teams participating in the contest.
Participants at the opening ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Delegation of National Assembly Deputies; Mr. Nguyen Quoc Chung, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Ms. Nguyen Huong Giang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee; members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent People's Council, People's Committee, Fatherland Front Committee, Provincial Delegation of National Assembly Deputies; leaders of departments, branches, sectors, localities and a large number of musicians, actors, artisans, people and tourists from all over the world.
This year's Contest took place in 3 days (February 21-23), attracting the participation of more than 500 artisans, actors, musicians, brothers and sisters of 08 mass art troupes from Culture, Sports and Media Centers and 50 villages, neighborhoods, and art clubs in the whole province.
Quan ho singing is an art form originating in Bac Ninh province, which combines various elements, including music, lyrics, costumes and a unique style of singing that reflects the close relationship between the singers. The rich and diverse tunes and fine lyrics of the songs portray the zest for life and distinctive cultural features of people in the region formerly called Kinh Bac. The contest aims to preserve and revive the valuable, ancient art of “Quan ho” (love duet) singing that was recognised by UNESCO as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage in 2009.
The Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Song Contest is part of a series of activities in response to the Festival "Coming back to Quan Ho Land - 2023"; the celebration of the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - 2023); the respond of the 80 anniversary of Vietnam's Cultural Outline; implementation of Resolution No. 71-NQ/TU of the Executive Committee of Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee, term XX on "Building and developing culture and people of Bac Ninh by 2030 to meet the requirements of sustainable development".
