Dong Ho folk painting profile to be submitted to UNESCO

(BNP) - In the Document No. 387/TTg-KGVX, the Prime Minister agreed to submit to the United Nations Scientific, Educational and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for consideration to add "Dong Ho Folk Painting" in the List of Intangible cultural heritage that needs urgent protection.

The Prime Minister authorized the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to sign the dossier as prescribed. The Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO takes the lead and coordinates with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to carry out necessary procedures for submission to UNESCO before March 31, 2020.

Dong Ho folk painting is originated in Dong Ho village, Song Ho commune, Thuan Thanh district (Bac Ninh), dating back hundreds of years, which was associated with the practice of displaying on Tet, Mid-Autumn Festival or for ancestor worship. Dong Ho paintings imbued with national cultural identity, with specific characteristics of printing techniques, themes, colors and graphics with hand-made processes, from composing designs, carving printed boards to making color and printing.
