Phu Khe Handicraft Funiture
Phu Khe has been the derivation of the carpentry, wood delicate carving craft. Phu Khe village (including 4 hamlets: Thuong, Tien Bao, Dong, Nghia Lap) located in Phu Khe commune, Tu Son town, Bac Ninh province, the founders of craft village is Mr. Lo Ban and Mr. Nguyen An. Currenly, Phu Khe has 3,308 households with 2,568 households producing wooden furniture, accounting for 77.63% of the production households of the craft village.

The process of forming a completed art wooden product in Phu Khe is divides into three stages: the fisrt step is cutting, wood sawing and chiselling the connecting wood called roughing; the second is rough touch and the third is delicate touch, Craft villagers still often saying: “the first tree, the second human, the third cloud, the fourth animal”, meaning the most difficult carving is carve trees, the second is carving people, the third is carving cloud and the fourth is carving animals. The decorative patterns carved according to the motifs of lotus, chrysanthemums, buddhists, orchids, four-quarter precious “conifer, chrysanthemum, bamboo, mai”, “dragon, unicorn, turle, phoenix”, “doctor, farmer, Industry, businessman”… Each carving, hrysanthemum become gragon, or phoenix, has its own characteristics depending on the perception, talent and creativity of each artisan.
Many valuable architectural works bearing the imprint of the wood carvers and artisans of Phu Khe village such as: But Thap pogoda, Tay Phuong pagoda, Diem Xa temple, Dinh Bang temple, Ngoc Son temple… Typical handicraft products of Phu Khe are “Tu Quy”, “100 Con Giong”, “Long Ly Quy Phuong” wooden, “Te Cong” relievo, Maitreya Buddha… have valuable using and artistic value, meeting the aesthetic tastes of domestic and foreign consumers, widely consumed nationwide and exported in large quntities.
Phu Khe wood carvign craft village was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016.
