Provincial leaders work with specialized agencies of Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Transport on plan to expand Gia Binh airport

(BNP) - On December 13, the Provincial People’s Committee (PPC) held a working session with specialized agencies of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Transport on the plan to expand Gia Binh airport.

Participants at the working session were Mr. Vuong Quoc Tuan, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the PPC; Mr. Dao Quang Khai, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the PPC; Major General Nguyen Ngoc Van, Commander of the Mobile Police, Ministry of Public Security; and leaders of departments, branches and Gia Binh district.

After the construction of phase 1 of Gia Binh airport project, Bac Ninh province arranged to implement phase 2 with an expected scale of more than 400 hectares and aim to upgrade the airport. Currently, Bac Ninh is building a project to submit to the Government for approval of additional planning to upgrade and build Gia Binh airport for international diplomatic delegations, transporting passengers and transporting goods with the runway length, which is increased from 3.05km to 4.5km to be able to receive the largest aircraft in the world. The implementation time of phase 2 is carried out simultaneously with phase 1, striving to complete both phases by the end of 2025.

At the working session, delegates discussed and exchanged contents related to the plan to expand Gia Binh airport based on reviewing the Bac Ninh Provincial Planning for the 2021 – 2030 period; Gia Binh District Construction Planning dossier; airport planning dossier; data on population and land in the planning area, estimated project site clearance costs; current status of import and export demand for goods, forecast of tourism potential and number of air passengers in Bac Ninh province, etc.

Speaking at the working session, PPC’s Chairman Vuong Quoc Tuan emphasized that Bac Ninh highly appreciated the significance and importance of the Gia Binh airport project and determined to implement 2 phases in parallel, in which, phase 2 is divided into 2 milestones.

Tuan requested the specialized agencies of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Transport to consider and agree on the maximum expansion area of ​​the airport, in which, the parts that can be left will not be included in the planning to minimize the impact on the surrounding area. Bac Ninh province will also have a specific plan to ensure the most favorable conditions for the airport’s auxiliary activities, he added.
