Discover beauty of Bac Ninh - Kinh Bac at "Learning about Vietnam Day 2023"

(BNP) - In the afternoon of April 7, at the Quan Ho Folk Song Theater in Bac Ninh, the Provincial People's Committee and Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly organized the program "Learning about Vietnam in 2023 - Beauty of Bac Ninh - Kinh Bac".

Attending the program were Mr. Ha Kim Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO; Mr. Saadi Salama, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Vietnam, Head of the Diplomatic Delegation; Ms. Vu Thi Bich Ngoc, Honorary Chairwoman of the ASEAN Community Women's Network Group in Hanoi and nearly 150 delegates who are Ambassadors, Heads of Representatives from Diplomatic Corps and International Organizations in Vietnam, newly appointed Vietnamese Ambassador, ASEAN Women's Network in Hanoi – AWCH and Foreign Business Association in Vietnam.

Bac Ninh’s leaders were Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Delegation of National Assembly; Ms. Nguyen Huong Giang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Vuong Quoc Tuan, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and comrades in the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee; leaders of People's Committees, Provincial Fatherland Front Committees and departments, branches and Bac Ninh city.

The event was this year’s edition of the ministry’s annual ‘Learning about Vietnam Session’, first held in 2015 to update the country's socio-economic achievements, and at the same time promote Vietnamese culture to the international community.

In his opening speech, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan said Bac Ninh wishes to receive support from the delegates in promoting its image, cultural value, and business climate to the world.

Mr. Tuan expressed his hope to receive he attention and support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic missions, international organizations, and foreign business associations in Vietnam in connecting and spreading the word, promote the image, traditional cultural values, attractive investment environment of Bac Ninh province to every piece of land and every person in the world.

On the other hand, fe asked for support toward the province’s efforts to make the local Dong Ho folk painting profession a part of the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in 2024.

Tuan also said that in order to honor the friendship between Bac Ninh province and other countries and territories, Bac Ninh province has built an International Friendship Park to display the symbols of the nation. On this occasion, Tuan wished that the heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Vietnam would pay attention and support the symbol so that international friendship would develop better and better.

According to Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Dong Ho folk painting profession has existed and developed for hundreds of years. However, up to now, only 03 households with about 30 people from 04 generations can make Dong Ho folk paintings. Currently, the profession is facing many difficulties such as a small number of skilled people, no guarantee of livelihood for their families, and many difficulties in the production process.

In order to preserve and promote the value of Dong Ho folk painting profession, the Government of Vietnam and the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province with the active participation of the community have built a profile of Dong Ho folk painting profession and submitted it to UNESCO for consideration and registration on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in need of urgent protection.

Speaking at the program, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO Ha Kim Ngoc highly appreciated the determination of the people and authorities of Bac Ninh province in preserving promoting their unique cultural heritage values, notably Quan Ho folk songs and Dong Ho folk paintings.

Mr. Saadi Salama, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Vietnam, Head of the Diplomatic Delegation congratulated Bac Ninh province on its achievements in socio-economic fields, especially the great contributions of the province to the treasure of cultural heritage of mankind, of which Quan Ho Bac Ninh folk song is a typical representative.

On this occasion, the ASEAN Women's Network Group in Hanoi - AWCH also had an exchange, presented gifts and artifacts with a total value of VND 80 million to the Center for nurturing people with meritorious services and social protection in Bac Ninh province.
