Summary conference on “National food security to 2020” project

After 10 years of implementation, the project on "National Food Security to 2020" has achieved positive results. Specifically, 12 targets were reached and exceeded the set-out, of which, the  most remarkable sectors are area of paddy land nationwide in 2018 with 4.159 million hectares (exceeding 3.76 million hectares); rice production in 2019 with 43.4 million tons (exceeding 41-43 million tons); rice exports in 2019 with 6.34 million tons (exceeding 4 million tons).

Export of agricultural products continues to be promoted, export turnover of 7 goods reached over 1 billion USD per year, with an average annual export of about 5-7 million tons of rice. Many models of clean agricultural production, high-tech applications, and organic agriculture have been invested and developed; contributing to macroeconomic stability, job creation and poverty reduction.

For Bac Ninh, after 10 years of Project implementation, the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production increased from VND 6,918 billion (in 2008) to VND 8,862 billion (in 2018), the average growth rate was 2.28%. Economic structure has shifted positively towards increasing the proportion of livestock and aquaculture, reducing the proportion of cultivation. The value of crop production was VND 97.6 million/ha/year with an increase of VND 37.2 million compared to 2008.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that after more than 30 years of renovation and 10 years of implementation of the "National food security" project, Vietnam has become a leading country in producing and exporting rice in the world.

He asked ministries, localities to speed up the development and restructure agricultural production with an aim to meeting food and foodstuff demand in both quantity and quality for domestic consumption and export; continue to upgrade and modernize agricultural and rural infrastructure serving food and foodstuff production and people's life; improve research, application and technology transfer…

Delivering the closing speech, Secretary of Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Nhan Chien urged relevant departments, agencies and units to seriously implement the Prime Minister's conclusion, continue to well-implement the Project in the next time with an aim to increasing production value on a farming area; developing agriculture towards high technology and clean agriculture.

In addition, it is required to focus on the dual goal of both promoting production and prevention of the epidemic, thereby successfully implementing the province's socio-economic development tasks in 2020, the Secretary added.
