Bac Ninh Overview
Kinh Bac, the ancient land of Bac Ninh, has existed for a long time and was named Bac Ninh during the Nguyen Dynasty (1823). Bac Ninh town transformed to Bac Ninh province in 1831, according to the historical line with several names such as: Bo, Lo, Tran... Since then, Bac Ninh has been formally designated as a province of Vietnam by administrative unit. Bac Ninh province was amalgamated with Bac Giang province in 1963 to become Ha Bac province; nevertheless, Bac Ninh province was re-established on January 1, 1997.
Bac Ninh province currently covers an area of 822.7 km2 and is positioned in the economic growth triangle of Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh. Bac Ninh has a population of 1,488,250 people in 2022, according to the statistical yearbook, with men accounting for 49.2% and women accounting for 50.8%. The province is divided into eight administrative entities: Bac Ninh city, Tu Son city, Thuan Thanh town, Que Vo town, and four districts: Tien Du, Yen Phong, Gia Binh, and Luong Tai, with a total of 126 administrative units at the commune level, including 70 communes, 52 wards, and four townships.
Bac Ninh is a province with vital major roadways that connect the region to the North's economic, commercial, and cultural hubs. National Highway 1A connects Hanoi, Bac Ninh, and Lang Son; Highway 18 connects Noi Bai International Airport, Bac Ninh, and Ha Long; National Highway 38 connects Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, and Hai Phong; and the Trans-Vietnam Railway connects Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, and Hai Phong. The Cau, Duong, and Thai Binh rivers form a waterway network that runs into the East Sea. These are favorable conditions for economic, cultural, and social development, as well as interactions with outsiders.
Bac Ninh has essentially become a modern industrial province after more than 20 years of re-establishment from a primarily agricultural region, with numerous socioeconomic indices ranking among the best in the country. The economy expanded completely in 2019, with gross regional domestic product (GRDP) increased slightly by 1.1% and the scale remaining in seventh place nationwide, reaching 119,832 billion VND (comparative price in 2010). The GRDP per capita reached 6,163 USD, which was 2.23 times greater than the national average and ranked second in the country as a whole. Per capita income reached 73.3 million VND, placing it fifth in the country.
State budget revenue in 2019 was estimated at VND 29,912 billion, exceeding VND 2,515 billion compared to the year estimate, up 6.5% compared to 2018, of which: domestic revenue was estimated at VND 23,662 billion, exceeding VND 2,515 billion estimated , up 8%; revenue from foreign-invested enterprises was VND 8,900 billion, exceeding VND 100 billion and increasing by 10.3%.
The value of industrial production reached VND 1.07 million billion (at 2010 constant price), with the foreign-invested economic sector valued at VND 991.2 trillion. Maintain first place in terms of output scale in comparison to the entire country. Agriculture, forestry, and fishery production value was VND 8,223 billion (at 2010 constant price), accounting for 91.9% of the year plan.
In terms of employment creation, the province has produced jobs for 27,200 people (including 1,877 people who will work abroad), and the percentage of trained workers has climbed to 72%. The proportion of poor households fell to 1.27%.
