PM presides over second conference of Red River Delta Coordinating Council

(BNP) - On the afternoon of December 7, in Hanoi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Chairman of the Red River Delta Regional Coordination Council, chaired the second conference on regional planning for the 2021 – 2030 period with a vision to 2050.


Overview of the conference.

Attending the conference were Mr. Dinh Tien Dung, Politburo member, Secretary of Hanoi City Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Planning and Investment, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Council; leaders of ministries and central agencies; leaders of 11 provinces and cities in the Red River Delta region and Council members.

Bac Ninh province’s delegate attending the conference was Mr. Vuong Quoc Tuan, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee and Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

The Red River Delta consists of 11 provinces and centrally-run cities, namely Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, and Ninh Binh. This is a centrally located region that is considered the northern gateway of the country and ASEAN for connecting economic development and trade with China. It has the Hanoi capital as the national political and administrative center as well as a positive economic structure, with the industry and construction sector as well as service playing key role and attracting many foreign investment projects... However, the Red River Delta region also has many limitations and difficulties.

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that the Red River Delta planning is an important, helping to "pave the way" and proactively creating development. Recognizing the importance of Planning, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has made a Planning for the Red River Delta region for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

At the conference, the delegates focus on measures to maximize potentials, outstanding opportunities, and competitive advantages, and at the same time resolve difficulties for rapid, sustainable development.

In his closing remarks, PM Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that, like the Southeast region, the Red River Delta has a special position and role, accounting for more than 50% of the national GDP, therefore planning must maximize the region's diverse potential, outstanding opportunities, and clear competitive advantages.

He required more clarity on new growth drivers including science and technology, innovation; new energy conversion, renewable industry development; ecosystems development to develop agricultural economy; focused industrial development based on effective land utilization, and so on.

In the forth coming time, the Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment to urgently receive comments, complete the Regional Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, and submit it to the Prime Minister for approval.
