(BNP) – Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra has signed Decision No. 1250/QD-TTg dated July 9, 2026, approving a plan to implement Notice No. 68-TB/VPTW of the Central Party Office on the conclusions of the General Secretary and State President regarding the development of Vietnamese traditional medicine.
Under the plan, ministries, sectors, and localities are required to strengthen communication and raise awareness of the role of traditional medicine in healthcare and public health protection. Authorities will review and improve legal frameworks and policies on traditional medicine, including those related to human resource development, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare services, medicinal herbs, health insurance, and technical standards. A Strategy for the Development of Vietnamese Traditional Medicine to 2030, with a vision to 2045, will also be formulated.
The plan promotes the integration of traditional and modern medicine across the healthcare system, while standardizing non-drug therapies such as acupuncture, acupressure, massage, and preventive healthcare. It also calls for enhancing the capacity of traditional medicine facilities at all levels.
Priority will be given to conserving and sustainably developing medicinal plant resources, establishing a complete value chain from cultivation and processing to production, branding, and export, while strengthening quality control and combating counterfeit and substandard medicinal materials.
The Government also aims to build a national database on traditional medicine, digitize traditional medical knowledge, promote scientific research and clinical validation of traditional remedies, protect intellectual property rights, encourage biotechnology applications, and support the development of high-quality OCOP medicinal products.
In addition, the plan emphasizes expanding international cooperation, mobilizing investment resources, strengthening state management of professional practice and product quality, improving human resource training, and honoring outstanding physicians and organizations for their contributions to preserving and developing Vietnamese traditional medicine.
