On March 30, 2020, the Council of Europe officially approved the EVFTA. Vietnam became the only developing country and the second in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to sign an FTA with the EU - the world’s leading economic community with GDP of 18,300 billion USD, accounting for 40% of global trade.
After the Agreement takes effect, the EU will remove 70.3% of export turnover from Việt Nam to the EU, thereby, bringing great job opportunities for workers, consumers will be able to receive cheaper products due to the tax exemption. For SMEs, this is a positive signal as well as a leverage to boost production and business, import and export activities in the context of businesses facing difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
