(BNP) - On June 26, 2026, the Drug Administration of Vietnam (Ministry of Health) issued a Decision granting the "Good Laboratory Practice" (GLP) certificate to the Bac Ninh Center for Disease Control (CDC). This is the first CDC in the country to achieve GLP standards, affirming its testing capacity according to the Ministry of Health's standards.
The testing laboratory system at Facility 2, Vo Cuong Ward, meets the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.
GLP is a system of principles and standards issued by the Ministry of Health to ensure that testing laboratories fully meet the requirements regarding facilities, equipment, personnel, quality management systems, and technical procedures. Achieving GLP certification not only affirms the unit's professional competence but also ensures the accuracy and reliability of drug and food testing results, effectively serving state management and public health care.
Previously, although the testing laboratory of the Bac Ninh CDC had been certified ISO/IEC 17025 with 17 pharmaceutical testing parameters and 19 food testing parameters, it still did not fully meet the conditions to achieve GLP standards.
Based on the implementation plan developed since 2024, the Center has focused on investing in and upgrading the testing laboratory at Facility 2 (Vo Cuong Ward) according to GLP standards. The focus is on investing in a cleanroom module, a clean air supply system for the microbiology laboratory, and an exhaust gas treatment system; simultaneously, rearranging the testing laboratories in a scientific manner to meet the requirements of chemical safety, biosafety, and cross-contamination prevention during the testing process.
Along with investing in infrastructure, the Bac Ninh CDC focuses on standardizing human resources and the quality management system. The center has sent staff from three specialized departments – the Physical Chemistry Department, the Microbiology Department, and the Quality Management Department – to participate in training on GLP principles and standards; simultaneously, it has reviewed and perfected all professional procedures, technical documents, and quality management records according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health. Ten staff members have received GLP training certification, making them qualified to directly operate the testing laboratory according to the standards.
After completing the necessary conditions regarding infrastructure, equipment, human resources, and professional records, in October 2025, the Bac Ninh CDC submitted its application to the Drug Administration of Vietnam for assessment. The assessment team from the Drug Administration of Vietnam conducted an on-site evaluation at the Center on April 17th and 18th, 2026. Based on the assessment results and corrective action report from the unit, on June 26, 2026, the Drug Administration officially granted the "Good Laboratory Practice" (GLP) certificate to the Bac Ninh CDC.
Becoming the first CDC in the country to achieve GLP standards is a significant milestone in the process of improving the testing capacity of the Bac Ninh Health sector, creating a foundation for the Center to continue expanding its capacity to test drugs and food according to domestic and international quality standards. At the same time, this is also evidence of the positive results of the health sector in innovating and improving the quality of public services, contributing to building a modern, effective, and efficient administration that meets the development requirements of the province after implementing the two-tiered local government model.
