Bac Ninh: Opening ceremony of Asian Southeast Wrestling Championship in 2017
In the afternoon of November 23rd 2017, at the Bac Ninh Gymnasium, pursuant to direction of Provincial People’s Committee, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with General Department of Sports and Physical Education, under Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held Opening ceremony of the Asian Southeast Wrestling Championship in 2017.
Regarding to the delegates of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, attending the ceremony were Ms. Le Thi Hoang Yen, Deputy General Director; Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong, Deputy Director of Department No. 1 of High Achievement Sports.
Representatives of Bac Ninh province were Mr. Nguyen Huu Quat, Standing Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Hanh Chung, Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Council; Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Tran Quang Nam, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Head of Organization Committee; leaders of relevant departments, agencies and so many local audiences.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Quang Nam, Head of the Organization Committee, affirmed that the Southeast Asian Wrestling Championship in 2017 in Bac Ninh, a sacred land with extraordinary people, was not only competitions in a sporting arena but also a contribution to tightening the friendship of the nations in the ASEAN common house that has been more and more dynamically developed for peace and prosperity in the region. Bac Ninh province, a rich land in traditions and culture, would make great efforts to organize a successful tournament.

The Southeast Asian Wrestling Championship 2017 was taken place from November 20th to November 26th, 2017. The tournament attracted nearly 130 wrestlers from seven countries in Asian Southeast region including Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam competing to gain 24 sets of medals at 03 contents: Greco- Roman, male freestyle and female freestyle wrestling. Vietnam’s team joined the championship with 64 coaches, athletes, among which, Bac Ninh province contributed 06 athletes.
The Asian Southeast Wrestling Championship in 2017 was a good chance for wrestler in the region to fight and improve their abilities, also devoted to the promotion of physical training and sports in general, wrestling in particular in the province. Moreover, it had played an important role to introduce, promote images, culture, traditions and people of Bac Ninh - Kinh Bac, where deserves a dynamic, hospitable locality, to a large number of friends in the country and worldwide.
After the opening ceremony, the athletes continued competing in the finals of categories for male wrestlers.
