10 remarkable foreign affairs of Bac Ninh province in 2017
1. Strengthening the friendship relations between Bac Ninh province and Houaphanh province, Lao PDR
In 2017, the friendship relations between Bac Ninh and Lao PDR in general, Houaphanh province (Lao PDR) in particular was continuously developed through friendship visits with the purpose of economic, cultural and social exchanges. On April 17th 2017, Laos National Assembly’s Chairwoman H.E Pany Yathotou paid a courtesy and visited some typical enterprises in the province during her official visit to Vietnam. Besides, the friendship visits between Bac Ninh and Houaphanh were also maintained and strengthened in the past year. Specifically, on January 18th 2017, the delegation of Houaphanh province led by Mr. Phu Xon Tham Ma Vi Xay, Deputy Governor visited and worked in Bac Ninh. From August 13th to 18th, 2017, the delegation of Bac Ninh province led by Mr. Nguyen Huu Quat – Standing Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee also paid a visit to Houaphanh province. These visits had played an especial important role, expressed the deep meaning of the friendship between the two countries as well as Bac Ninh and Houaphanh provinces.
2. Delegation of Ambassadors and Ministry of Foreign Affairs attends 185th anniversary of establishment, 20th anniversary of re-establishment of Bac Ninh province
On February 12th 2017, Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Fatherland Front solemnly held 185th anniversary of establishment, 20th anniversary of re-establishment of Bac Ninh province and received the First Class Independence Medal.
Attending the anniversary were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of countries, which have traditional friendship and close association in geopolitics and economics such as Russia, Poland, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Korea and Counselor of the Embassy of China; Representatives of enterprises, from 31 countries and territories, investing in Bac Ninh. The anniversary came to a successful end, showed not only the cultural identity of the Quan ho region, but also the spirit of international integration to the audiences.
3. Granting Certificate of Investment Registration for Expansion Project to Samsung Display Vietnam
On February 24th, 2017, Provincial People's Committee held a ceremony to grant investment certificate for the expansion project (USD 2.5 billion) to Samsung Display Vietnam Co. Ltd in Yen Phong Industrial Zone. With an expansion investment project from USD 4 billion in 2015 to USD 6.5 billion in 2017, the company's production capacity will increase from 180 million to 220 million products per year.
4. Provincial leader meets with Association of Bac Ninh’s Fellow citizens in Czech Republic
On February 14th 2017, Chairman of Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tu Quynh met with the delegation of Association of Bac Ninh’s fellow citizens in Czech Republic led by Mr. Dang Dinh Thinh – the Chairman. The Association has now nearly 2,000 Bac Ninh members living and studying in Czech Republic. At the meeting, Mr. Dang Dinh Thinh expressed his hope that the province would organize much more meaningful activities in the coming time in order to further connect the sentiments of Bac Ninh's people in the Czech Republic with Kinh Bac homeland.
5. Spring Friendship Program in 2017
On March 4th 2017, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations in collaboration with Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee held the program "Spring Friendship in 2017" in Bac Ninh. Attending the program were Ambassadors and spouses, representatives of diplomatic agencies, international organizations and non-governmental organizations in Vietnam; representatives of a number of ministries, central agencies; leaders of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations. The delegation came to offer incense at the Kinh Duong Vuong Temple in A Lu village, Dai Dong Thanh commune and visited Dong Ho folk painting village in Song Ho commune (Thuan Thanh district). The Spring Friendship in 2017 contributed to boosting the friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and international friends, and people-to-people exchanges in 2018.
6. Continue promoting cultural exchanges and economic cooperation between Bac Ninh and Japanese localities, enterprises
On February 22nd 2017, the Japanese-Vietnamese Friendship Association of Chukyo region in central of Japan donated 124 cherry blossoms with the participation of Mr. Umeda Kunio - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Van Phong - Vice Chairman of Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee, and leaders of relevant departments.
From March 21st to March 25th 2017, Bac Ninh continued to organize Cherry Blossom Exhibition 2017. This exhibition showed the number of 5,000 branches and 20 cherry blossom trees directly transferred from Japan. It aimed to enhance understanding, trust and cohesion between people of two countries in general, between Bac Ninh province and Japan in particular, contributing to promoting cooperation in the various fields of culture, tourism, economy between Bac Ninh and Japan.
A program for meeting Japanese enterprises in Bac Ninh in 2017 was also organized during the time of Cherry Blossom Exhibition. Japanese enterprises have made active contributions on the socio-economic development of the province. Typically, the value of industrial production reached nearly USD 2 billion, the export value reached USD 1.5 billion, the budget contribution reached over USD 22 million, resolved over 33,000 employees. The program aimed to recognize the contribution of Japanese enterprises to socio-economic development and to further promote economic, cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in general and Bac Ninh and Japan in particular.
7. Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee and Saemaul Globalization Foundation, Korea
On April 25th 2017, Provincial People's Committee (PPC) held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saemaul Globalization Foundation, Korea on the implementation of a new rural pilot model in Mo Dao commune (Que Vo). The content of cooperation includes establishment and operation of the project management board; Information and communication exchange for the project; Support and joint training; Technical and financial support related to project human resource development. Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh - Vice Chairman of the PPC wished the signing ceremony would create the basis for effective implementation of the project, contributing to improving the quality of life for Bac Ninh people in general and Mo Dao commune in particular.
8. Viet Nam – Cuba Friendship exchange in Bac Ninh
As part of the activity series in celebration of the 64th anniversary of the Assault to Moncada Barracks (July 26th, 1953 - 2017), on August 8th 2017, a delegation of the Embassy of Cuba and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association led by Ambassador H.E Herminio Lopez Diaz visited and exchanged friendship in Bac Ninh. Addressing the event, Mr. Nguyen Van Phong- Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee highlighted the close, faithful and pure friendship between Viet Nam and Cuba, which has been established and cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh and President Fidel Castro. Mr. Herminio Lospez Diaz also affirmed that Cuba would be willing to cooperate and support Vietnam in general, Bac Ninh in particular in the bilateral cooperation for mutual development.
9. The high-ranking delegation of the Cambodian People's Party visits and works in Bac Ninh
On August 11th 2017, the high-ranking delegation of the Cambodian People's Party led by Mr. NayPae, Member of Party Central Standing Committee, Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee, First Vice Chairman of the Cambodian Senate visited and worked in Bac Ninh province. At the meeting, Secretary of Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Nhan Chien expressed his pleasure to welcome the delegates on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia. The two sides emphasized the traditional friendship of the two countries and expected to further develop the friendship cooperation in coming time.
10. The provincial leaders meet with the Danish, Italian and Dutch Ambassadors
On August 30th 2017, Bac Ninh Department of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with Department of Foreign Affairs for provinces, under Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Embassies of Denmark, Netherlands and Italy in Vietnam organized a discussion on strengthening the relationship between Bac Ninh province and localities of Denmark, Italy and the Netherlands. Attending the meeting were Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long, Director of Department of Foreign Affairs for provinces; Danish Ambassador H.E Charlotte Laursen; Italian Ambassador H.E Cecillia Piccioni; Dutch Ambassador H.E Nienke Trooster. Regarding the delegates of Bac Ninh, there were Mr. Nguyen Nhan Chien, Member of Party Central Committee, Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Head of Provincial Delegation of National Assembly Members; Mr. Nguyen Tu Quynh, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Provincial People's Committee and leaders of relevant departments. The topics of the seminar focused on cooperation in hi-tech agriculture, smart city building, feminism, cultural exchanges and measures to boost friendship and cooperation between the sides in the coming time.
