Leader of Provincial People’s Committee (PPC) receives and works with Representative Office of Saemaul Globalization Foundation (Korea) in Vietnam
In the afternoon of January 17th 2017, Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh, Vice Chairman of PPC received and worked with Mr. Lee Sang Woo - Head of Representative Office of Saemaul Globalization Foundation. Attending the meeting were leaders of the PPC Office, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Planning & Investment and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

At the meeting, Mr. Lee Sang Woo thanked provincial leaders for warm welcome, and generally introduced Saemaul Globalization Foundation and New Village Movement. Accordingly, the New Village Movement was originated in the industrialization period of Korea and funded by the Saemaul Foundation in Gyeongsangbuk with the aim of supporting community in rural areas under the New Village model of Saemaul Undong. The early stage of the movement focused on improving the basic living conditions and environments whereas later projects concentrated on building rural infrastructure and increasing community income. Since the start of implementation in Africa (2010) until now, Saemaul has applied at 42 villages in 14 developing countries. For successes in previous projects, the Foundation expects to bring benefits and successful experiences deployed in those countries to Vietnam. In Vietnam, Saemaul began supporting in Thai Nguyen province in 2015 and by 2017, the Foundation plans to continuously deploy in 5 villages, including Bac Ninh. Head of the Representative Office expected to receive helps and facilitation from the relevant authorities as well as the enthusiastic participation of the resident in order that the project would be successful in the future.
On behalf of leaders of PPC, Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh showed his pleasure to Mr. Lee Sang Woo and his Foundation for interestes in the program on building new countryside in Vietnam, particularly in Bac Ninh. Mr. Vice Chairman also briefed on the development of agriculture and rural areas of the province and stressed that Bac Ninh has had 97 communes implemented the program with variety of high results, included 59 communes gained 19/19 criterias and the average number is 17 criterias/commune. Specifically, by the end of 2016, Bac Ninh has Tien Du district and Tu Son town where were eligible to submit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for evaluation and Prime Minister for decision to recognize finishing of new countryside at the district level.
Therefore, he also wished Saemaul Globalization Foundation would make surveys and select a suitable commune with the project purpose to do supporting program related to development of local production and improvement living standards, contributing to the change of countryside in Bac Ninh./.
